AE Talent Solutions are delighted to be recruiting on behalf of our client for an experienced Construction Tutor to join the education team at HMP Brixton.

This is a rewarding opportunity for someone with a strong construction background who enjoys passing on their practical knowledge and helping learners develop the skills, confidence and qualifications they need to move towards employment.

We’re particularly interested in multi-skilled construction professionals who have experience across two or three of the following areas:

  • Carpentry

  • Plumbing

  • Wall & Floor Tiling

  • Painting & Decorating

  • Dry Lining

Experience in ICT or Food Safety would also be useful, but is not essential.

You don't need to be experienced in every discipline. A strong background in two or three construction trades, combined with teaching or training experience, would be ideal.

The Role

You will deliver engaging, practical construction training to learners, helping them develop vocational skills alongside employability, confidence and workplace behaviours.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Delivering practical construction sessions across your areas of expertise.

  • Providing cover across different vocational areas where required.

  • Planning and adapting lessons to meet different learner abilities and needs.

  • Supporting learners with low literacy and additional learning needs.

  • Assessing learner progress and providing constructive feedback.

  • Developing employability skills such as communication, teamwork and professionalism.

  • Maintaining a positive and inclusive learning environment.

  • Supporting learners towards relevant qualifications.

  • Maintaining high standards of health & safety, tool security and equipment control.

  • Completing registers, ILPs, assessments and other required documentation.

  • Working closely with education colleagues and prison staff.

  • Supporting learners with their Employability Passport and preparation for employment.

About You

We're looking for someone with:

  • Strong practical experience in construction and/or multiple trades.

  • Experience in at least two relevant areas, with three or more highly desirable.

  • A recognised Level 4+ teaching qualification, or willingness to work towards one.

  • Maths and English Level 2.

  • Experience delivering training, teaching, coaching or mentoring.

  • Strong communication and classroom-management skills.

  • The ability to adapt your teaching to different learner needs.

  • A good understanding of health & safety and safeguarding.

  • The resilience and confidence to work within a challenging but rewarding environment.

  • A genuine passion for helping people develop practical skills and improve their employment prospects.

Ideal Background

You could be an experienced:

Construction Tutor | Multi-Skills Tutor | Carpentry Tutor | Plumbing Tutor | Multi-Skilled Tradesperson | Site Supervisor | Construction Trainer | Assessor

Candidates with combinations such as Carpentry + Dry Lining + Painting & Decorating, Plumbing + Tiling + Painting & Decorating, or Carpentry + Plumbing + Tiling would be particularly well suited.

A teaching qualification is preferred, but candidates with strong construction experience who are willing to work towards one may also be considered.

Why This Role?

This is more than simply delivering construction training. You'll be helping learners develop practical skills, gain qualifications and build the confidence they need to take their next steps towards employment.

If you're an experienced construction professional with two or three relevant trade skills and you're interested in making a positive difference through education, we'd be very interested in speaking with you.
