AE Talent Solutions are delighted to be recruiting on behalf of our client for an experienced Functional Skills English Tutor to deliver City & Guilds Functional Skills English qualifications from Entry Level 1 to Level 2 at HMP High Down.
This is a rewarding opportunity to support learners on their rehabilitation journey, helping them develop the English skills, confidence and qualifications they need to progress into employment and build brighter futures.
About the Role
As a Functional Skills English Tutor, you will deliver engaging and inclusive lessons to groups of up to 12 learners, supporting individuals with a wide range of educational backgrounds, learning needs and abilities.
You will use adaptive teaching approaches and digital resources to make English relevant, accessible and engaging.
You will:
Deliver Functional Skills English from Entry Level 1 to Level 2.
Conduct initial assessments and use BKSB diagnostics to identify learner starting points.
Develop and maintain Individual Learning Plans (ILPs).
Plan and deliver engaging lessons that support learner progression and achievement.
Motivate and inspire learners to reach their full potential.
Support learners with additional learning needs and reasonable adjustments.
Monitor learner progress and prepare learners for examinations and assessments.
Promote literacy and reading across the prison environment.
Work collaboratively with prison staff, support practitioners and employability teams.
Maintain accurate learner records and complete required administrative duties.
Contribute to quality improvement and the wider education provision.
What We're Looking For
Essential:
Level 3 qualification in English.
Level 5 teaching qualification or above, such as PGCE, Cert Ed or DTLLS, or willingness to work towards one.
Experience delivering Functional Skills English.
Strong lesson planning, classroom management and learner engagement skills.
Ability to adapt teaching methods to meet diverse learner needs.
Excellent communication and organisational skills.
Commitment to safeguarding, equality, inclusion and learner success.
Desirable:
Experience working in prison education, adult learning or further education.
Experience using BKSB or similar diagnostic tools.
Knowledge of the Ofsted Education Inspection Framework (EIF).
Internal Quality Assurance qualification or willingness to work towards one.
