AE Talent Solutions are delighted to be recruiting on behalf of our client for an experienced Functional Skills Maths Tutor to join the education team at HMYOI Werrington.
This is a rewarding opportunity for a Tutor who can do more than simply deliver training. You’ll be working with young people who may have had limited or disrupted education, helping them build their confidence, develop their maths skills and achieve meaningful qualifications.
Based on-site at HMYOI Werrington, you’ll deliver City & Guilds Functional Skills Maths qualifications from Entry Level 1 to Level 2, working with small groups of prison-based learners to develop their skills, knowledge and confidence while supporting them with their longer-term goals and aspirations.
The Role
You’ll be responsible for creating engaging and inclusive learning experiences that encourage learners to participate, progress and achieve.
Your responsibilities will include:
Assessing learners’ individual needs and ensuring appropriate Individual Learning Plans (ILPs) are in place.
Planning and delivering engaging City & Guilds Functional Skills Maths lessons from Entry Level 1 to Level 2.
Adapting and differentiating lessons to meet different abilities, learning styles and individual needs.
Supporting learners who may have low levels of numeracy or limited previous experience of education.
Regularly reviewing learner progress and adapting teaching and learning where required.
Motivating and encouraging learners to improve engagement, attendance and achievement.
Preparing learners for Functional Skills Maths assessments and qualifications.
Providing constructive feedback and helping learners recognise their progress.
Completing registers, enrolment paperwork, ILPs, reviews and awarding-body documentation accurately and within required timescales.
Gathering learner feedback and contributing to improvements in curriculum content and delivery.
Working closely with colleagues and prison staff to support learners’ progression.
Contributing towards contractual KPIs and quality standards.
Maintaining a safe, respectful and positive learning environment.
What We’re Looking For
We’re looking for an enthusiastic and committed Tutor who is passionate about education and enjoys helping learners who may have had limited or disrupted experiences of education.
You will need:
Level 3 qualification in Maths.
Teaching qualification at Level 5 or above such as PGCE, Cert Ed, DTLLS or equivalent, or willingness to work towards one.
Experience delivering Functional Skills Maths qualifications from Entry Level 1 to Level 2.
Experience delivering City & Guilds Functional Skills Maths would be advantageous.
Strong lesson planning, classroom management and learner engagement skills.
Ability to adapt teaching methods to meet diverse learner needs.
Excellent communication, organisational and administrative skills.
The ability to remain calm, professional and confident when managing challenging situations.
A strong commitment to safeguarding, equality, inclusion and learner success.
A genuine passion for helping learners build confidence and achieve their potential.
An understanding of the Ofsted Education Inspection Framework (EIF) and how this translates into high-quality teaching and learning.
Experience of working within FE, adult education, alternative education or a prison/secure environment would be advantageous.
