AE Talent Solutions are delighted to be recruiting on behalf of our client for an experienced Health & Safety Tutor to join the education team at HMP Thameside.

This is a rewarding opportunity for an experienced Health & Safety professional with a passion for education and supporting learners to develop the knowledge, skills and confidence they need to progress.

The successful candidate will primarily deliver Health & Safety education, working with prison-based learners in a supportive and structured learning environment. Ideally, you will also have experience or knowledge across Business and Customer Service, enabling you to provide additional teaching and class cover where required.

You will work with learners from a range of backgrounds and abilities, helping them achieve meaningful qualifications while developing their employability, confidence and personal skills.

What You'll Be Doing

Teaching & Learning

  • Plan and deliver engaging, inclusive Health & Safety lessons tailored to learner needs.

  • Deliver high-quality teaching that encourages participation, achievement and progression.

  • Support learners working towards relevant qualifications.

  • Differentiate teaching to accommodate different abilities, learning styles and support needs.

  • Create a positive and respectful classroom environment.

  • Embed employability, communication, literacy, numeracy and digital skills into learning where appropriate.

  • Use a range of teaching and motivational approaches to encourage learner engagement and attendance.

  • Provide additional teaching or class cover across Business and Customer Service where required.

Assessment & Learner Progress

  • Assess learners' starting points and contribute to individual learning plans.

  • Conduct formative and summative assessments.

  • Monitor and track learner progress and achievement.

  • Provide constructive feedback to help learners understand their development.

  • Prepare learners for internal and external examinations and assessments.

  • Maintain accurate records of learner progress and achievement.

Learner Support

  • Build positive professional relationships with learners and act as a positive role model.

  • Encourage learners to develop confidence, resilience and self-esteem.

  • Identify barriers to learning and work with colleagues and support teams to address them.

  • Support learners in developing realistic education, employment and career goals.

  • Promote personal development, employability and rehabilitation through education.

Quality & Compliance

  • Maintain accurate registers, ILPs, assessment records and other learner documentation.

  • Contribute to quality assurance activities, observations and audits.

  • Ensure delivery meets awarding body and organisational standards.

  • Follow safeguarding, equality, health & safety and prison security procedures.

  • Maintain professional standards in all aspects of teaching and learner support.

Teamwork & Development

  • Work collaboratively with education colleagues, prison staff and other professionals.

  • Participate in team meetings, CPD and training activities.

  • Contribute to curriculum development and the sharing of good practice.

  • Provide support across the wider education department when required.

What We're Looking For

Essential

  • Relevant experience and/or qualification in Health & Safety.

  • A recognised Level 5+ teaching qualification, such as PGCE, Cert Ed or equivalent, or willingness to work towards one.

  • Strong teaching, communication and classroom management skills.

  • Experience delivering education or training to adults.

  • Ability to engage and motivate learners from diverse backgrounds.

  • Strong organisational and administrative skills.

  • Good understanding of safeguarding, equality and health & safety.

  • Resilience and professionalism when working within a challenging environment.

Ideally, You Will Also Have

  • Experience delivering Business-related qualifications or training.

  • Experience delivering Customer Service qualifications or training.

  • Experience working within prison education, further education or adult learning.

  • Experience supporting learners with additional needs or barriers to learning.

  • Internal Quality Assurance (IQA) qualification or willingness to achieve one.

  • Knowledge of the Ofsted Education Inspection Framework (EIF).

  • Experience using BKSB or other diagnostic/assessment tools.

  • Experience using digital learning platforms and resources.
